Built by an operator who got burned.

Foundwork exists because of every agency that took the money, shipped a pretty page that didn't rank, and stopped answering the phone. This is the other way of doing it.

I'm Jamie. I run local businesses in Ontario — the kind that live or die on whether the phone rings. A contracting company. A coworking space. A property-tech startup. Businesses where "getting found online" isn't a marketing abstraction; it's next month's revenue.

So I did what every business owner does: I hired the people who were supposed to know. Agencies. Freelancers. Overseas shops. And over and over, I got the same result — a pretty website, a confident invoice, no rankings, and then silence. Reports I couldn't read. "Optimizing" that never produced a lead. The person who built it long gone by the time something broke.

Eventually I stopped hiring it and started learning it — because my own businesses couldn't afford for it to keep not working.

I went deep: site architecture, local SEO, page speed, structured data, and — earlier than most — how AI search decides which businesses to recommend. I rebuilt my own companies' websites the way the agencies never did. The results are on the work page, with real Search Console numbers, because numbers you can't verify are just marketing.

Foundwork is that hard-won playbook, offered to other local businesses. The premise is simple: you should get what I couldn't buy — a site engineered to actually get found, a plain-English report you can actually read, and a person who actually answers after launch.

Why "Foundwork"

Three words folded into one. Found — as in getting found, the entire point. Work — as in the site brings in work, and as in this is work, not magic. And underneath both: foundation — because everything that ranks is built on structure most people never see. That's also the design language of this site: measurement lines, spec sheets, a visible grid. Built things, built properly.

How I work

Solo, deliberately. Fixed scopes and fixed prices, so you're never funding a meter that's always running. Hand-built static sites, because they're faster, safer, and rank better than plugin-stuffed platforms. A limited number of builds at a time, because the care plans — the part every other shop skips — are a promise I intend to keep personally. If I'm ever too booked to do it properly, I'll tell you, and you'll go on a list instead of into a queue of neglect.

Every metric published comes from Search Console, GA4, or payment logs. Where a build is too new for data, it says so. No invented percentages, ever.
